Epson R2400 Paper Feed Problems
Feb 11, 2007
I have been having constant paper feed problems with an Epson R2400 and am just about ready to junk it. Is the equivalent Canon printer any more reliable than that Epson piece of trash in this regard? How are they with B&W compared to the Epson (which I find find to be fine when it decides to print) ?

There isn't an equivalent Canon printer yet. The Pixma 9500 is coming, but who knows for sure what media handling ability it will have?
Your problems seem to have been ongoing. As well as dirty PF roller, faulty sensors or loose ribbon cable connection to sensors, connection problems with the computer, or misalignment of something in the paper path could cause your problems. Have you had it serviced?

My experience with the R2400 has not been great. Noticed paper feeding problems after about 6 months, got jerked around by Epson service until it went out of warranty, sent it off for repairs which cost $200 and lasted 6 months. Net result- it will not feed any paper through the sheet feeder but at least I can use the roll feeder in the back. Note that I have a 2200 which has 0 problems with paper feeding. Sent an email to Epson service, they sent a reference to a manual. Epson is fortunate that they don't have much competition in the pigment printer business. Pity since the output when it works is go great.
Worse product that I have purchased to date for value. For the same price I could have bought a washing machine that typically lasts 10-15 years. Shame on you Epson for your lack of consideration for your customers. Thank your lucky stars that you are in the high-tech business where your customers are so complient (along with Microsoft's).

Does anyone else have same problems with R2400? I have just ordered one and I am a bit concerned now after reading this thread. I've only read positive reviews and tests. It seems however that the one to blame is Epson service -- not the printer.

Don't worry about your forthcoming printer, John. It will make beautiful prints, and it will feed paper as it should. The OP may have a defect--they exisit across all brands and models, or his printer may need service. In any case that kind of performance is not typical of R2400s
My R2400 is only about 3-months old. Love it. I bought on the recommendation of a friend whose R2400 is almost two yearsd old. Neither machine has feed problems or any other operating issues.
Enjoy your new printer!

In most cases the 2400 has above average feed. I think the OP had a defective one.
Yet for the poster that said Epson don't have much competition, well Canon and HP certainly have some impressive pigment printers. In some areas both HP and Canon exceed Epson in pigment prints. Competition is good, Epson are forced to adapt to these newcomers, or they loose market share....

Re: Epson R2400 Paper Feed Problems
...I have had my R2400 for about 9 months
there was a sharp initial learning curve, esp with paper feed
I still have some issues at times with thicker rag paper
Curiously at times like that it will say it can't be done...and then it does it...
prints beautifully
outside of some feeding issues for odd thickness paper, this is a great printer
I would add that I am somewhat surprised at the frequency of need for alignment check...but no biggie
Certainly worth doing before you start a major project

the printer feeds thick paper very well (normal thick stuff like hahnemuhle photorag 308) from the back paper feed, most other paper can go through the normal paper feed. there should be no problems, if there is then you should have contacted epson

I have had my R2400 for under a week and also have had major problems with the paper feed. It seems to be a common issue with this model.
The paper feed issues are very very frustrating. I can run 10 sheets of mat a3 through it and it will only print on one of them! Also had problems with glossy A4.
Due to this problem I would have to say that it is the worst printer I have ever owned. I would not buy Epson again after this.
Refer to the reviews on Amazon.

I have been printing one page at a time!
The single page will just feed straight through the printer and report a paper feed error. So then I put in another single sheet and the same thing happens. Only one in 10 sheets prints when when placed in the printer one at a time.
From what I see on the internet this is very common fault with this model.

I feel like shouting HALLELUJAH! I did EVER YTHING I read online & NOTHING worked. Called Epson Tech support & it turns out that my main problem is that I mostly print custom sized documents & when you do this (on a mac at least) you have to set the print margins (when creating the custom size) to at least .01 each. I did this & Voila' paper feeds every time. I realize not all of you are doing custom sized documents but in case you are - this is the trick!!!! : )

I feel like shouting f*** Epson! When I try to print on 5x7 inch Photo Paper, the paper goes through and it reports a paper jam. This happens 99% of the time. Tried changing the margins, nothing...
Is there a solution for this crap?
Thanks, Daan

Yes. Clean your rollers once a month like you're supposed to!

When people ignore basic printer maintenance and then complain and want to "I feel like shouting f*** Epson!" because their printer rollers are so dirty they no longer can grab paper...then yeah I am. It's quite simple. Clean the pickup rollers ( many videos on line ) and that will be the solution to "This Crap"!

I am sorry to hear about your issues. I've had this printers for many years and except for a occasional clogged heads I've had literally zero issues. Your printer must be either a lemon or you are possibly doing something wrong. Can you describe in more detail what exactly is the feed problem? Maybe I can come up with a solution???
